Created Marie’s Marie’s Mjolnir from Soul Eater

link to Thingiverse model: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2273861

Hey this is a commission I made . It is Mjolnir from Soul Eater.

marie mjolnir photo souleater_marie2.jpg

I initially made a 3d model of it using fusion 360

The model was pretty basic and easily done. took me about 15 minutes to throw it together. I then 3dprinted it and showed the print to my client to make sure she liked the design of the hammer before I proceed to designing puzzle pieces.

After the client said “I love it,” I began designing the puzzle pieces which took about 5 hours.

After this step I began laser cutting the pieces and glueing them together

The pieces did have these tooth edges that could be easily sanded off.

I used plastic wood as wood filler to fill the joints between all of the pieces

Then used an electric sander to sand it real smooth before priming it with spray filler.

It now just needs a final sand to make it completely smooth

Get a layer fan for your 3d printer.

I do not know why but some 3d printer do not come with a layer fan. In my opinion, layer fans are must haves in every printer. The reason is it once the molten/melted pla is deposited on a layer it will tend to ooze if it Is still warm. Oozing plastic will result in bad layer construction in 3d prints.

in the video you can see the drastic difference in print quality with and without a fan.

Lasered some worbla and tested my turn table

Hey I asked a friend to save her armor pattern so I can testing my laser cutting worbla idea and I gotta say it came out great. And also test out my table turner I built.

I asked my friend to send me photos of her patterns and used photoshop to trace her pattern:

I then transfered the trace on to the laser cutter and got this.

The pieces came out great but putting them together was tough. I actually ruined my mannequin by melting the worbla on to the mannequin on accident. Aso I need to shrink my hands to make the armor. it was tough attaching the tiny worbla pieces together.

And finally test the table turner. Here is a link to a video test of my model on the table turner.

special thanks to : https://www.instagram.com/ektrix/

for letting test out my idea with her In Progress Cosplay.

Having a laser cutter is great! if you have many tedious pieces in your cosplay play, you should consider contacting a maker space in your city to laser cut the pieces for you. normally it would take me an hour to cut those tiny pieces but the laser cuts it out in lets than a minute.

If you have any questions please shoot me an e-mail.

If you enjoy my work and want to support me shoot me a follow. I do plan on using my table turner to show off more cosplays and 3d prints.

I need to order a new mannequin…. dang it….

Fusion 360 warm up: League of Legends Leona’s shield DxF files.

Hey I made some DxF files today to laser cut Leona’s shield! you can download it here

I used a shield image I found on google as a reference. I also made a very rudimentary model of her shield but don’t plan on making a model unless enough people like this post.

Hey! did a short talk with CostumeAndPlay.com

Hey! I did a short interview with a group of cosplay enthusiast and event planners from across the pond. I made myself seem like a spaz but it was fun telling people how fun 3d printing and cosplay is.

Cosplay has recently taken the media and become more mainstream in today’s culture and it is evolving. It is also spreading and is still relatively new in today’s world. I am trying to be a part of that movement/evolution by using my knowledge of 3d printing and arduino hacking and demonstrating it to cosplayers in my area.

It is been my goal to bring more technology to the field of cosplay and influence cosplayers to use it more. It directly ups their game in the cosplay world and indirectly gets more people interested in electronics!

I like to tell people who have a budding interesting in the techy side of cosplay and are too intimidated to start, “Just do it!” the best way to learn something is to jump in head first and make mistakes. I self taught myself 3d printing, modeling, and coding and my first 3d printer was something I made from scraps I found.

Here is a link to their website where you can see their hard work blogging about the cosplay community. Here is a link to the interview ; it is a twitch recording called Costume and Play Chit Chat. Watch as I make myself awkward and dork off on some tech stuff.
